You might have noticed pattern imprinted concrete driveways as you walk around the area. This could be because they have a high gloss or shiny appearance. But, there is a good probability that you have also strolled past them and not noticed the imprinted concrete manholes in Huddersfield. These are the small drain covers that regularly get overlooked. However, they play an important role in the appearance of the overall finish of the surface and the function.

Introduction to pattern imprinted concrete

The purpose of pattern imprinted concrete is to create a strong concrete slab that is visually beautiful. Also, that does not allow weeds to grow in or through it. This is by colouring and stamping a pattern into the concrete before it sets to prevent growth through the concrete.

Advantages and efficiency of imprinted concrete

Pattern imprinted concrete, when correctly installed, is extremely effective at making an eye-catching surface for your property. Plus laying it down takes a substantially less amount of time compared to laying down some of the other counterparts, such as traditional paving.

Aesthetic considerations for manholes

Existing manholes are removed and replaced with insert trays that match, which makes the drain covers look more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. This is done because unsightly manhole covers destroy the appearance of any printed driveway or path. They are all equipped with keys if they ever need to be lifted. Furthermore, they are robust enough to withstand any car or vehicle driving over them.

Using recessed tray covers

Pro Imprinted Concrete Huddersfield likes to utilise recessed tray covers. This is in places where manholes need to be replaced as part of the construction of a stamped concrete driveway or patio. These are offered in several different sizes and come with either a 5-tonne or a 10-tonne rating. But this depends on the kind of traffic that will be travelling on the new surface.

Customisation and integration with surroundings

Our imprinted concrete installers in Huddersfield can infill the recessed coverings that are placed over manholes with pattern imprinted concrete. Then colour it to fit the region that is immediately surrounding the manhole. A simple metal manhole cover is not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as a stamped concrete recessed tray cover. Which also has the advantage of being simple to lift and remove allowing access to and examination of drains at a later time.

Process of installation

Excavation and waste removal

To begin, the location has to be excavated which is typically done with a mini digger. Then waste has to be removed and a sub-base, such as dolomite or Type 1 MOT aggregate, has to be compacted.

Construction of temporary timber "shutters"

Then, temporary timber “shutters” are cut to size to create a box shape around the space. These “shutters” should fall slightly, typically in the direction of a linear drainage channel that will be installed by us.

Installation of steps, kerbing, and permanent edging

After that, any steps, kerbing, or permanent edging will be constructed if there is room for them.

Integration of manhole covers

If there are any manhole covers, we will use string lines to build recessed or hidden covers that are still accessible at the height that has been specified for the driveway.

Concrete placement and initial treatment

After all of the preparatory work has been finished, the concrete will be poured into the driveway. From there it will be scraped, stamped, and screeded. This is before the application of the colour hardener of your choice onto the surface of the still-wet concrete.
